Between 1933 and 1936, Mussolini ordered the construction of the Via dei Fori Imperiali, which obliges final demolition of the Flavian fountain. It was a public fountain built around A.D. 80, where, according to legend, gladiators washed after a fight. A few years later were later brought to light the underground arena, remained buried since the fifth century. In 1990, UNESCO declared the Coliseum World Heritage site.
