national roman museum crypta balbi

The crypt is an annex to the ancient Teatro Balbo, built by Lucius Cornelius Balbus in 13 BC Today the crypt is a museum dedicated urban archeology or to research and use the documentation of these areas over the centuries. On display are some findings on the spot and others from external sites: ceramics, glass shards, metal objects, bone and ivory, jewels and precious stones. You can also observe materials, tools and objects that testify to the ongoing work and the increasing quality of products even during the early medieval period (VII - X century), usually considered "dark."
