Century Palazzo Massimo is a collection of the most important collections of classical art in the world. The building consists of four floors in rooms which are exposed sculptures, frescoes, mosaics, coins and gold jewelry of the Late-Republican and Imperial Rome. In particular, on the ground floor there are many marble portraits of the republic and imperial age that testify to the artistic growth of the Roman sculptors. On the same floor they are also exposed some Greek original statues found in Rome: the Boxer, the Prince, the Niobede the Gardens of Sallust. On the first floor you will then meet the statuary Roman masterpieces. An example is the magnificent sarcophagus of Portonaccio leading carved a battle scene, a discus thrower, the Sleeping Hermaphrodite, the Maiden of Anzio. In the halls of the second floor they are recreated the sumptuous environments of the richest Roman villas with mosaics and frescoes that decorated the domestic premises. The basement is reserved for the collection of coins and jewelry, but the highlight is definitely the Grottarossa mummy. This is the body of a child found along the Via Cassia in his coffin and with his own funeral. And 'the only Roman period mummy ever found in the world.
